One of the key themes of this 11th Meeting of the 116 Creative Cities will be cooperation, the cities working together to meet the goals set by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

For the first time, the international agenda will incorporate culture in the scope of meeting the sustainable development goals relating to education, the environment, economic growth, sustainable consumption, production methods and so forth. Important acknowledgement of the need to safeguard and promote the cultural and natural heritage of the creative and cultural industries.

Factoring in these international strategic issues, the programme of the Annual Meeting will comprise:

  • A General Assembly under the aegis of UNESCO reserved for the 116 member cities of the Network, including plenary sessions, themed meetings and a Mayors Forum attended by the permanent delegations from the 54 countries represented by UNESCO.
  • A comprehensive international arts programme, Data Cities, aimed at the general public. This free showcase will present the initiatives of the 116 creative cities in the following seven creative fields: crafts and folk arts, design, film, gastronomy, literature, music and the media arts.
